Fitted sheets are bought on three things: does it fit the mattress, does it survive washing, and what does it feel like. This is a microfibre sheet with a 14-inch deep pocket at a price well below cotton, and with over 130,000 ratings it is the most-rated product in our home textiles category. Microfibre is a genuine trade-off rather than simply a cheap substitute, and it is worth understanding which side of it you are on.

How it compares in Home Textiles
Across the 20 rated home textiles products we track, the typical score is 4.5 out of 5. This one sits at 4.6, which puts it in the upper quarter of the category rather than level with it. Where almost everything is rated well, the gap at the top is small in points and large in practice. That places it first of the 20 we rank here.
It carries 132,967 ratings against a category median of 7,957. A rating from a large base is harder to distort and tends to hold up over time, so a high score here means more than the same score on a new listing.
On price it sits in the lower third of a category running from £7.59 to £51.99, where the midpoint is about £15.99. Cheaper than most while rating at or above the category norm is the combination worth looking for, and it is the main argument for this one.

What microfibre is, and what it does well
Microfibre is finely woven polyester. Its practical advantages are real: it resists wrinkling so it comes out of a tumble dryer usable, it dries quickly, it is durable through repeated hot washes, and it costs a fraction of cotton. For a spare room, a child's bed, a rental or a bed that gets stripped weekly, those are exactly the right properties.
It also holds colour better than cotton across many washes, which is why these sheets tend to look the same after two years while a cheap cotton set has faded.
The honest downside: it does not breathe like cotton
Polyester moves moisture differently from a natural fibre. If you sleep hot, microfibre will feel warmer and clammier than cotton, and no thread count or brand changes that, because it is a property of the material. This is the single most common theme in critical reviews of any microfibre sheet.
If you run cold, or the room is cold, the same property is an advantage: microfibre feels warm to the touch immediately, where cotton feels cool. Knowing which of those two describes you tells you whether to buy this or spend more on cotton percale.
Deep pocket, and how to check before you order
A 14-inch pocket covers most UK mattresses comfortably, including many with a topper. It is not enough for a very deep mattress plus a thick memory-foam topper, which is where people end up with a sheet that pings off a corner at 3am.
Measure the mattress from the top surface to where it meets the base, and add the topper if you use one. If that number is over about 12 inches you want the deep-pocket version; if it is over 14 you need a specialist extra-deep sheet regardless of brand.
One practical note repeated across the review base: microfibre can pill over time if washed with rougher fabrics such as towels or denim. Washing bedding as its own load largely prevents it.

Frequently asked questions
Is microfibre bedding good?
It is durable, wrinkle-resistant, fast-drying and much cheaper than cotton, which suits spare rooms, children's beds and anything stripped often. The trade-off is breathability: if you sleep hot, cotton will feel better.
Is a 14-inch deep pocket enough?
For most UK mattresses, yes, including many with a thin topper. Measure from the mattress top to where it meets the base and add any topper; over about 14 inches you need a specialist extra-deep sheet.
Does microfibre make you sweat?
It can if you already sleep hot, because polyester handles moisture differently from natural fibres. If you tend to feel cold in bed, the same property makes it feel warm immediately rather than chilly.
Will microfibre sheets pill?
They can if washed alongside rougher items such as towels or denim. Washing bedding as its own load, at a moderate temperature, largely prevents it.
How do microfibre and cotton compare on price?
Microfibre typically costs a fraction of comparable cotton and holds its colour better over many washes. What you pay more for with cotton is breathability and the feel against the skin.
