Corrections and editorial policy

A shortlisting site is only worth reading if it is clear about how it knows things and what it does when it is wrong. This page covers both, in plain terms.

Where our information comes from

  • Ratings and review counts come from Amazon's UK catalogue. They are always labelled as Amazon's, never presented as our own scores, and never marked up as our rating in structured data.
  • Prices are fetched live from Amazon when a page loads. We do not write prices into articles.
  • Product descriptions and specifications come from the manufacturer's own listing. Where we quote them we say so, because a maker's claim about its own product is a claim, not a finding.
  • Rankings and comparisons are calculated by us from the catalogue, using the method set out on how we rank. Every figure on a review page can be checked against the other products in that category.

What we will not publish

  • Invented ratings, reviews, test results or measurements. If we have not measured it, we do not report a measurement.
  • A badge on every product. Most products are not top picks and are not labelled as one.
  • Amazon's rating dressed up as our own aggregate rating in structured data.
  • Paid placement of any kind. No brand can buy a position, a badge or a friendlier write-up.
  • Health, safety or medical claims. Where a product touches health, we describe what it is and point to official UK guidance rather than making claims about outcomes.

When we get something wrong

We publish across 7,218 products, so errors happen: a pack size changes, a product is reformulated or discontinued, a manufacturer's own listing is inaccurate, or we simply misread something. What we do about it:

  1. Factual error. Corrected as soon as we can verify it, and the page's update date changes with it.
  2. Something that changed a recommendation. Corrected, with a short note on the page saying what changed and when. We do not quietly rewrite history.
  3. Safety-relevant claim. Taken down first, verified afterwards. A recall or safety notice is handled the same day we learn of it.
  4. Discontinued or delisted product. Marked as such rather than left looking current.

We do not delete a page to make a mistake disappear. If a correction matters enough that someone could have acted on the old version, the note stays on the page.

Report an error

If something looks wrong, tell us and we will look at it. Include the page address and what looks wrong, because a specific report gets fixed faster than a general one.

One thing worth checking first: our prices are live, so a difference between our page and Amazon usually means the price moved between your two visits, or that you are looking at a different seller or pack size on Amazon's page.
